Marshmallow, a biennial herb of the Malvaceae family, is distributed in eastern, central, and northern regions of China. The roots contain mucilage, and the mucilage of annual roots contains 7.78% pentose, 6.87% pentosan, 10.59% methylpentosan, and 20.04% uronic acid. Whole grass can be used as medicine.
